OpenPGP

A key is something you can do, not something you buy.

A PGP key is a pair. The public half is safe to publish. The private half proves it was you, and opens what other people sealed to you. Making one costs nothing. The worth is the proof that still checks years later.

What you can do with one

  • Sign a file so it can be checked later

A detached signature sits beside the data and does not change it. Anyone with your public key can confirm those exact bytes — a dataset, a release, a statement — still match what you signed.

  • Reject a copy that was edited

Verification fails if a single character changes. That is the job. You do not have to trust the site that hosted the file, only the public key you already decided to trust.

  • Seal a message to one person

Encryption uses their public key. Only the matching private key opens it. You can do this for a note, a paste, or a file you do not want a host to read.

  • Keep a name that is not a login

The fingerprint is the identity. It does not expire when a company closes an account. You publish the public key and keep the private key. Lose the private key and you can still be verified on old signatures, but you cannot sign new ones.

What they are worth

Nothing, as a commodity. A Curve25519 key is free to generate, and selling the key itself would be selling something you can make in a few seconds. There is no honest price chart for “a PGP key.”

The value is use. Journalists sign releases. Projects sign downloads. Researchers publish a dataset and a signature so a reader can see it was not swapped. Two people who have exchanged public keys can write without the mail host being able to read it.

People pay for software and help around that work. They do not pay for the key material. This bench does the cryptographic part in your browser. Private keys are stored only on this device.

Access

Open the bench to create a key, sign, verify, seal, and keep a local vault. No account needed; your private key never leaves this browser.

Paid setup — walking a team through publishing a key, signing a dataset, or checking a release — is billed by Life Flip LLC. Any payment is PayPal only, to [email protected]. Do not send a private key or a passphrase.
